Firefighters rescue turtle on Isla del Coco

Fire Department

Firefighters from the Isla del Coco station helped a Kemp’s ridley turtle, after a group of conservationists aboard the Sharkwater boat found it pressed into a fishing net.

At the request of the park guards of the Isla del Coco National Park, fire paramedics in consultation with veterinarians of the Fire Department, applied medications to try to improve the health of the turtle.

The animal showed signs of chronic weakness and injuries possibly caused by the attack of a shark.

After stabilizing the turtle, it was released about five miles from the island, in the open sea.
