Firefighters will create a database with the riskiest areas of the country

The Distinguished Fire Brigade of Costa Rica will be better prepared for earthquakes, floods or major fires. This is achieved through working in lifting georeferenced information in different places of the 7 provinces. The work will take place over the next 9 months.

The firefighters will collect structures’ data to create a national database on the characteristics of building construction and location of fire hydrants. This will avoid future emergencies or help to optimally address them when they occur and save more lives, in addition to determine the sites of greatest risk, such as places where fuel, gas cylinders and chemicals are stored.

Luis Salas, chief officer of the Fire Department, asks the population to contribute to the task by taking photographs of buildings, businesses, neighborhoods and residential homes. It is important to note that managers will wear the official uniform and shall be properly identified and will move only on institutional vehicles.
