Fires claimed the lives of 100 people since 2011

According the statistics of the Fire Department, since 2011, a total of 100 people died as a result of fires in the country.

The entity asks citizens not to lower their guards, especially in December, when fires occurrence increases 35% more than the rest of the year.

On average, we report a structural fire every 7 hours, and this year we reported about a thousand structures affected to some degree. We also have 16 fatal fire victims this year, a higher figure than in 2015,”

said Alexander Solís, head of the Unit for the Prevention and Investigation of fire.

In the first 12 days of December, firefighters report two fires of Christmas decoration and the death of one person. Poor electrical installation, Christmas decorations and gunpowder are the main causes of fires.
