First animal abuse trial in the country to be held next Monday

A woman will face a trial as a defendant, after she tied her dog with a shoelace and caused a round neck wound.

The Prosecutor’s Office investigated and accused a woman named González, who is suspected of committing an alleged crime of animal abuse to the detriment of a dog. The Prosecutor also said that the dog was in a state of abandonment and in unsanitary conditions.

The debate will take place next Monday in the Courts of Atenas and will be the first trial in which the animal welfare law is applied. The Public Ministry will present four witnesses and the trial is expected to end in the afternoon.
