Foreign Ministry avoids comments on Costa Rica’s ambassador to Venezuela

On October 27th the Foreign Ministry didn’t answer any questions regarding the process followed by the Government of Costa Rica to appoint a new ambassador to Venezuela.

The Diplomatic mission of Costa Rica in Caracas has 19 months without an ambassador since the Executive dismissed Federico Picado on March 25th 2015. The embassy has been in charge of diplomat Ana Patricia Villalobos since then.

The direction of Institutional Communication from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed that the Vice Chancellor is not a spokesman for the subject and that it corresponds directly to Chancellor Manuel González, but he is visiting Cartagena, Colombia, to participate in the XXV Ibero-American Conference of Heads of State and Governments.

According to the opposition parties, it is a mistake not having an ambassador in Caracas, despite the political and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela.
