Former OIJ Chief Sentenced to Prison for Disclosure of Secret Information

The former head of the Drug Section of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) at the San Carlos headquarters was sentenced to five years in prison for the crime of disclosure of secret information.

The man named Hidalgo was investigated for links with a woman who would be involved in drug trafficking in the North Zone.

José Pablo Badilla, Hidalgo’s lawyer, said that they will appeal the sentence, because they believe there was no disclosure of secrets related to investigations.

The Public Ministry had requested eight years of prison against the official before the alleged favors in favor of a criminal gang. However, the criminal court issued only three years in prison that will be met through the conditional execution.
