Gas pricing method pointed out by lack of transparency

Defensoría de los Habitantes (Ombudsman office) points out that the new method to calculate fuel prices isn’t clear because it wouldn’t take into account important aspects that impact operative costs of gas stations.

The new pricing method is promoted by Regulatory Authority of Public Services (ARESEP), which is presenting the proposal at public hearings.

The ombudsman office criticized, through a press release, to ARESEP for allegedly presenting to public consultation a series of mathematical equations that don’t contemplate important business aspects, such as expenditures data, revenues, investments, stock and more statistical information needed to apply a model of this kind.

According to the ombudsman office, the method presented by Aresep doesn’t allow to foresee its impact on fuel prices and operative costs, which creates uncertainty on its effects toward customers.

The ombudsman office is concerned that if the proposal is approved without changes, errors would come up when is implemented and it would take a new method to replace it.
