Gonvernment in a rush to meet OECD requirements

In June, the Government will have to explain to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) the progress it has made in competition.

Carlos Mora, deputy economy minister, said the government is still in time to deliver the text to the Congres, and explained that for the preparation of the bill, a working committee was formed with the Superintendency of Telecommunications (Sutel), the Ministry of Foreign Trade (Comex), the Ministry of Science and Technology (Micit) and the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce (MEIC).

The international organization first recommended greater budget and independence for the entities responsible for overseeing competition in the country, specifically: the Commission to Promote Competition (COPROCOM) and the Superintendency of Telecommunications (Sutel).

According to the head of the organization more competition will bring more jobs and more prosperity.
