Government diminishes lower category of Costa Rican aviation

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) and the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT) referred to the reevaluation made by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States.

Guillermo Hoppe, director of the DGAC, and Rodolfo Méndez Mata, minister of the portfolio, gave explanations to the media: The country lost a category when passing from 1 to 2 and the FAA reiterated that international vital requirements in international aviation are not met.

The most immediate repercussion is that the Costa Rican flag airlines will not be able to open new routes to the United States, until all the requirements for upgrading are met. The existing routes will not suffer any variation and everything will remain normal.

Méndez clarified that international airlines that want to open new flights from Costa Rica to other countries can do so without any problem.
