Government expects 400 thousand tourists thanks to new conventions center

According to Tourism Minister, Mauricio Ventura, the new National Convention Center will create an additional and gradual income of 400 thousand tourists.

These remarks were given at the inauguration of the works carried out by President Luis Guillermo Solís in Barreal de Heredia.

The project, which will have a capacity for 4600 people, will cost more than $35 million. The 15,600 square-meter structure is expected to be completed in a year with the direction of the company Edica.

After ten years of processing, this project is expected to strengthen the arrival of visitors during the off-season. It also aligns Costa Rica with nations like Panama, Colombia, Peru and Argentina.

Globally, the convention industry moves $120 billion a year. The average expense of a business executive is three times higher than the cost of a vacation.

Ventura believes that the characteristics of the country for this type of tourists are important, since, in addition to attending the events, they will have the opportunity to visit the country in a short time.

Currently, Costa Rica receives a total of 2.9 million tourists. In addition, it is expected that the Convention Center will increase the capacity of productive chains with activities beyond those dedicated to tourism itself.
