Government fails to stop indefinite strike on Monday

The government failed in its attempt to contain the national strike that will paralyze public services indefinitely from Monday.

The unions of the public sector rejected the request of president Carlos Alvarado to call off the strike and talk to him at the Presidential House, since their demand is the withdrawal of the fiscal plan from Congress.

Thus, five days after the strike, the negotiations between the executive branch and the public sector seem to be aggravated.

The president mocks the efforts of the unions to promote solutions and alternatives to the fiscal plan that hits the majority of the working people. The strike is going very hard this Monday,”

said Albino Vargas, spokesman for the unions.

On Tuesday afternoon, President Alvarado invited the unions to a dialogue, on the condition that they cancel the strike. However, he will not withdraw the fiscal plan from Congress.

I ask you to understand, based on your responsibility as leaders of many of the groups that are at risk, the critical situation facing the country and the need for that project to move forward,”

said the president.

The strike that the unions will carry out starting at 12 am on Monday will paralyze all public services indefinitely, including health services.
