Government keeps tax negotiations secret until meeting with Legislative Assembly

This Thursday there will be one more attempt on the part of the government to advance in the fiscal subject with the legislators of the Congress. There will be a meeting between the two groups to discuss the possibility of giving a schedule to the discussions of taxes, VAT and Income, in addition to those relating to public employment and containment of expenditure.

From the Executive Branch they would be willing to accept changes within the project, but they prefer to keep them secret until it is presented to legislators.

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of the Presidency, Luis Paulino Mora, who even made a comparison with the coach of the National Soccer Team, Óscar “Manchillo” Ramírez.

We have been talking to all the political forces, with non-parliamentary actors, but as Machillo says, I better keep those aces under my sleeve to use them on Thursday,”

said the official.

The meeting will be attended by officials of the Ministry of Finance , with the aim of clarifying doubts regarding the text of the Law on Strengthening Public Finances.

The meeting will be held at the National Center for Culture (Cenac), at 9 p.m.

The substitute texts were approved last week in the Finance Committee, which allows them to open the discussions and the process of presenting motions to the project, described by the Minister of the Presidency, Sergio Alfaro, as a “weak progress” in the process.
