Government studies possibility of canceling departure tax

According to the Minister of Agriculture, Luis Felipe Arauz, the government will explore the possibility of canceling the $ 2 increase on the departure tax.

Amid growing opposition from legislators and representatives of business chambers of the hotel and tourism sector, Arauz acknowledged that the head of Tourism, Mauricio Ventura, has posed administrative difficulties in implementing the decree signed by President Luis Guillermo Solís to raise the tax from $29 to $31.

The government justified the increase in the need to fund programs of the National Animal Health Service (SENASA), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG).
