Hallelujah! Fuel Prices will drop

On Monday afternoon, the Regulatory Authority for Public Services (ARESEP) approved a decrease in fuel prices as a result of processing all the requests for extraordinary adjustment made by the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (RECOPE) for the months of October and November.

This adjustment, in addition to the price difference, includes the corresponding update to the price lag, that was to be applied in October and results in a reduction of ¢ 19 in Super gasoline, ¢ 30 in the Plus and ¢ 41 in diesel.

The prices as published in the Official Gazette will be: ¢ 562 for Super gas, ¢ 525 for regular gas, ¢ 427 for diesel and ¢ 253 for liquefied gas.

Roberto Jiménez, General regulator believes it is important that the Constitutional Court hears the ARESEP and allows the use of the fuel methodology

given that this is a basic input for the economy and users were encouraged by the reduction recorded in the international prices.”

The application of the methodology for oil pricing had been suspended by the Constitutional Court in response to an appeal by the Chamber of Industries of Costa Rica.

The rebate will be applied the day after the resolution is published in the Official Gazette.
