Heavy rains caused flooding in San Carlos

The heavy rains that poured down in San Carlos at 3:30 on Wednesday afternoon caused flooding in various sectors of the canton.

According to the Fire Department, the incidents that were reported were due to saturation of sewers, which caused the flooding of homes, institutions, and businesses. However, one of the most affected places was the Hospital of San Carlos.

According to Edgar Carrillo, director of said medical center, due to a heavy downpour in Ciudad Quesada for about 25 minutes, there were flood problems in the hospital. The affected places are the Emergency Room, the Pharmacy, the Laboratory, and some administrative offices.

This forced us to evacuate between 30 and 35 people in the Emergency Room and relocate them in other sectors to safeguard their integrity. We also had to rescue technological equipment and reinforce the cleaning equipment, and for this, it was coordinated with the Fire Department to start extracting the water from the corridors of this place,”

said Carillo.

The director also said that the priority is to restore the Emergency Room and then proceed with the rest.

It is important to mention that the 217 beds where there are hospitalized patients were not affected,”

concluded Carillo.
