Heredia and Cartago’s trains saturated

From early hours of Tuesday morning, many Costa Ricans took precautions due to the blockades conducted by taxi drivers in several sectors. For many, the train was the solution to ease their commute to their workplace.

The Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles (INCOFER) reported an increase of users this morning, mainly on Heredia and Cartago’s routes, where the wagons were completely crowded.

The number of users has increased and the lines to board the train have been longer, but we assume it’s because of today´s situation,”

said María Fernanda Arias, spokeswoman for the Costa Rican Institute of Railways (Incofer by its acronym in Spanish).

Several reports indicate that on the route from Cartago to San José, many of the people waiting for the train at UACA and Tres Ríos stations could not take it due to the large number of people who used the service.

We thought that the railway crossing would be blocked too, but so far that has not occurred and everything went well,”

said Arias.
