Highest authority in community water management was finally constituted

The highest authority in community water management in Costa Rica has already been constituted: the National Confederation of Federations, Leagues and Unions of Administrative Associations of Aqueduct and Communal Sewer Systems.

The Asadas manage the water resource in communities the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA) has no capacity to reach. The Confederation is called Conaflu and was established on January 27th at the facilities of the National Technical University in Alajuela.

Delegates from different unions elected the first Board of Directors of the entity, chaired by Olga Zárate Esquivel, community manager of the Asada Gigante de Paquera.

One of the purposes of this institution is having an impact on the discussion, analysis and definition of public policies and regulations on community management of water, sanitation and integrated management of water resources.
