Homicides go down for the first time compared with 2017

The last four months began with a “small victory” for national security authorities. For the first time in 2018, the statistics of homicides in the country show a decrease compared to 2017.

The data shows the lowest figure that has been reported in the last eight months. As of September 2nd this year, authorities registered 400 homicides, while in 2017 there were 401 cases.

The figure is relevant for the authorities after mid-year the difference in 2018 came to be up to 39 more cases.

We have one homicide less compared to last year. This has not happened in a long time. It’s a photograph of the moment, but it gives us hope that we managed to slow down an increase of 39 more cases,”

said Minister Michael Soto.

The hierarch said that in June they managed to reduce 10 cases, on July 11, while in August they had 14 fewer cases.

We managed to slow down the increase. We can not be irresponsible and say that cases will decrease, but we will continue to work and apply strategies to lower the 603 homicides that occurred in 2017,”

said Soto.

The minister pointed out that the main decrease occurs in retaliation cases, since there have been 40 less cases so far. However, he said that there are homicides linked to the increase in violence in society that are difficult to contain such as fights, domestic violence, and other crimes.
