Honduras reported 34 newborn babies with microcephaly

The health authorities in Honduras reported that 34 children were born with microcephaly in 2016 and estimate that by the end of the year the number could increase 10 times.

So far, only one of the 34 cases is related to Zika, but according to Honduran Health Minister Francis Contrera,  the authorities are investigating whether the death of a baby with microcephaly last week was associated with the disease.

The authorities have reported more than 30,000 cases of zika in Honduras, a number that includes more than 600 pregnant women.

Health authorities are requesting to take precautions and eliminate mosquitoes breeding sites in order to avoid this disease.
