Hotels, restaurants and musicians sign agreement

The Costa Rican Chambers of Hotels (CCH) and Restaurants and similar establishments and the Association of Composers and Musical Authors of Costa Rica (ACAM) signed an agreement for the use of the material in the establishments.

The agreement states that the repertoire of ACAM and Fonotica is to be used in rooms, gym, reception, lobby and other common areas of the hotels.

Therefore it is also clear that the rates agreed for hoteliers do not include other business units within the hotels, such as restaurants, bars and casinos, so they must be added to the final cost for each establishment.

This agreement is an important recognition in favor of copyright, but above all of ACAM rights to charge these fees, recognized by the judicial authorities of the country.

The chambers urged their affiliates to take advantage of this agreement, as special rates have been achieved for affiliates.

In the event that a substantial improvement in revenue collection for the association is not achieved, such agreement would be canceled.

The chambers also reminded the public in general that not paying these fees would imply a court order to close the business, upon verification of the use of music and material by ACAM.
