How will the OECD benefit Costa Rican education?

The process of incorporating Costa Rica into the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) began in 2015. Therefore, different sectors have been subjected to in-depth assessments, including the education system.

Recently, the Ministry of Public Education (MEP) announced that the report by the OECD favorably describes the country in this field, which allows them to continue making progress in becoming a member of this institution.

However, what benefits would it bring for the Costa Rican education system to be part of the OECD?

According to Sonia Marta Mora, Minister of Public Education, belonging to this organization will allow the country to know and compare what other countries are doing in education.

It must be understood that the OECD offers the member countries the support of the group, so that each country achieves its objectives, which means that they are offered the possibility of establishing international comparisons,”

said the Minister.

Likewise, Mora indicated that this will also mean an important statistical support, which will serve to make decisions.

Finally, the minister assured that it will also serve to share good practices with other countries, she even said that the report highlights numerous strengths, and some member countries have already shown their interest in them.

To become a member of the OECD, Costa Rica must obtain positive scores in 22 areas. It already has the approval in trade, health, agriculture and education policies.
