Illegal garbage dump in front of landfill

As incredibly as it sounds, the residents of La Carpio in Uruca must deal with a new problem in their community: a giant, smelly clandestine garbage dump.

Since last year, some people began to use a vacant in front of the Environmental Park from the company Ebi as a garbage dump.

Rubble, old tires, dead animals, cooking fats and restaurant waste end up in the lot without any control or treatment right under the Ministry of Health’s noses, which sends staff to inspect the authorized landfill each week.

According to Northellen Jiménez, president of the community council of La Carpio, the situation is getting out of control: it causes bad smells, burning of waste and the presence of dogs and birds of prey that create a very serious risk for the inhabitants of La Carpio and Lomas del Río In Pavas.

About 23 thousand people live around the illegal dump. The neighborhood association filed an environmental complaint with the Ministry of Health in October and still waits for a response.

The residents and the companies of the community have cleaned the area on several occasions. However, the garbage dump grows more and more, affecting the thousands of people who circulate every day on their way to school and work.

The Ministry of Health is analyzing the complaint to take action.
