Importers are analyzing the  advantages and opportunities of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Colombia, which came into force on August 1st.

Pedro Beirute, manager of the Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER), declared that the FTA with Colombia gives commercial security to Costa Rica.

Products in growing demand for the Colombian market were identified. Currently, 340 products such as food, chemical and pharmaceutical tools, as well as metalworking tools and medical equipment are exported.

They concluded that products with greater potential are: biscuits, gravy, juices, candies, fishes, canned chicken, shrimps and prawns, medicines, fertilizers and computers. Light bulbs and bicycles could also be exported.

Furthermore, It is thought that there are many chances of making important fashion improvements because Costa Ricans designers could benefit from Colombian supplies. In addition, There are opportunities for Costa Rican businessmen in Colombia to be part of the creative industry.

Beirute stated that that exports have doubled in the last 5 years, which, in his opinion, indicates a great potential for trade.
