In one month forest fires consumed more than 1,700 hectares

The forest fires consumed a total of 1,735 hectares of different areas of the country in just one month.

According to the report of the Emergency Dispatch Office of the Fire Department, 98% of the affected area is in Guanacaste. This is due to the speed of the winds, dry vegetation, and high temperatures.

The more than 1,700 hectares are broken down as follows:
• February 5th, Dota, San José: four hectares consumed
• February 14th, Dota, San José: one hectare
• February 18th, Liberia, Guanacaste: 2.5
• February 24th, Grecia, Alajuela: three
• March 2nd, Valverde Vega, Alajuela: 15
• March 9th, Santa Cruz, Guanacaste: seven
• March 11th, Carrillo, Guanacaste: 1,100
• March 12th, Parrita, Puntarenas: three
• March 12th, Bagaces, Guanacaste: 600

The institution had 80 firefighters and 35 units for the control and extinction of forest fires. They also make an urgent call in order to avoid the burning of pastures, garbage and bushels that in turn cause damage to property and the environment.
