The new National Police Academy will have a capacity to house 810 police officers. It is composed of 29 buildings that make up the complex located in La Rita de Pococí.

The work is valued at 12 billion colones, nine of which were donated by the People’s Republic of China.

The National Police Academy has bedroom towers, a dining room, a gym and football and basketball courts, in addition to classrooms, libraries and training areas for future officers.

The activity involves the Chinese ambassador Tang Heng and the national authorities commanded by President Luis Guillermo Solís.

Heng noted that the works lasted 32 months and that they were able to overcome some climatic inconveniences that affected some Asian workers.

The director of the center, Erick Lacayo, stressed the importance of having first-world facilities to train police officers.

Security Minister Gustavo Mata thanked the Government of China and said that the facilities will be used to train international police officers as well. He also thanked the donation of two aircraft for national security.

The National Police Academy will train officers of the police, Air Surveillance, Drug Control, Traffic Police, Prison Guards and agents of the Judicial Investigation Agency.
