It is the World Car-free Day! Join the initiative!

The World Car-Free Day is celebrated on September 22nd. It encourages thousands of people to give up their cars for a day. It aims to raise awareness about the use and benefits of alternative means of transport.

In Costa Rica, MUCAP company will join this initiative. To this end, all employees were encouraged to leave their cars at home and reach their workplace walking, cycling or by public transport.

The company has been implementing and developing issues related to environmental protection. In fact, in 2016 it received for the sixth consecutive year the Five-Star, Blue Flag award.

The National University (UNA) also joins the proposal and urged its staff and students to use enviromentally-friendlier alternative means of transport.

As part of the initiative, there will be walks in the university campus and at 12 noon the first ATS race will take place at Plaza de la Diversidad.

In addition, legislators from Partido Acción Ciudadana announced they will use bicycles, trains, bus or they will walk. For instance, legislator Otto Solís will ride a bicycle the get to the Congress.

Other public figures will join the celebration, such as mayor of San José Johnny Araya, who announced that he will ride a bike to go to his office. In addition, minister of Public Works and Transportation, Carlos Villata and vice minister of MOPT, Liza Castillo will also give up their vehicles.
