“It’s not easy to accept that a tractor will destroy your house”

Municipal authorities and the National Emergency Commission (CNE) demolished about 20 houses located in an area at risk for imminent landslides in Quebrada Honda de Mora.

The risk started after a landslide that occurred last Friday in the Alto de San Juan de Quitirrisí. About 4 hectares of a coffee plantation were affected by the rains and there is a high risk in the area.

People are very upset, the Red Cross have attended 2 people because of nervous breakdown (…) It is not easy to accept that you have to leave your home and that a tractor is going to pass over it,”

said Gabriel Solórzano Soto, a Quebrada Honda de Mora resident, who is not affected by the situation but lives only 400 meters from the demolished houses.

For those who want to, the municipality enabled a shelter in Brasil de Mora and also a municipal warehouse to store furniture. Meanwhile, authorities and the Institute for Social Aid (IMAS) are looking for a solution.
