José María Figueres: “Leaving the UN session was not appropriate”

Exactly one month ago, President Luis Guillermo Solís and Minister for Foreign Affairs Manuel González made the decision of leaving the UN plenary before the Brazilian president Michel Temer gave his speech, which has caused quite a stir in the country.

Former president José María Figueres gave its opinion on the Government’s actions and said Solís made a mistake when he got up and left.

Figueres also stated that he had acted otherwise, because there was no reason for the position taken by the Government in this matter.

In the framework of the UN I had acted differently, I would have stayed. Brazil is a country that deserves our respect and we have no reason to assume a different position,”

replied the former president in conversation with the press.

Now , the Constitutional Court has to rule in favor or against the complaints filed for the unconstitutional nature of the Government’s reservation declaration on the 12 memorandums by the Costa Rican ambassador to Brazil.
