La Platina is open, but more closures will come

After 24 hours of continuous work, La Platina Bridge in Alajuela-San José direction was reopened this morning.

The flow of traffic was suspended on that stretch due to the placement of a truss that will make up the new structure with 3 lanes in each direction.

This was the longest closure since the work was done. However, the measure did not go unnoticed: it generated anger among people who had to walk and transfer to other buses to continue their journeys.

During the Wednesday afternoon, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) accepted that there were coordination mistakes, despite the fact that the closure was announced on Tuesday afternoon. He promised to take the respective measures to avoid these situations.

We are asking the company to deliver according to a schedule, so that there is more time to warn about the closure,”

said Carlos Villalta, MOPT’s chief of staff.

The ministry also confirmed that there will be a closure in the dame direction on December 26th from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday. That same Tuesday there will be another close from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
