Lawyer allegedly facilitated dozens of abortions

On Saturday, a woman was arrested for allegedly operating a clandestine abortion clinic. However, the woman, named Morales, had no medical knowledge, since she is actually a lawyer.

Morales, 38, was arrested Desamparados Fallas and she was later released with precautionary measures.

Apparently, women paid up to 30,000 colones for an ultrasound on the first appointment. If the client decided to abort, she had to pay 300 thousand colones for the treatment. If the drug did not work, a fetus extraction was offered.

Morales allegedly had several years of “practice”, according to the significant amount of documentation resembling medical files found on the site. There were also a machine for ultrasounds, a stretcher for gynecological examinations, computer equipment, electronic storage devices, surgical tools, important documentation for research and 300 thousand colones in cash.

The first hypothesis is that these are women over 30 who underwent abortion. We have a list and now we will approach them, convince them and locate them to have more data,”

said Walter Espinoza, director of the OIJ.

The woman who undergoes an abortion procedure in Costa Rica also commits a crime.

A man named Barrantes was also arrested on the site, but he was later released without any preventive measures.

They were advertised on the Internet. They were not offering abortions, but support for women who were pregnant. They offered the possibility of aborting and provide such services,”

said Espinoza.
