Legislator asks the President to revoke the appointment of ethical guarantor at the UN

The appointment of the government’s ethical guarantor, Rodrigo Alberto Carazo, as ambassador to the United Nations (UN) does not satisfy National Restoration legislator Jonathan Prendas.

On Wednesday, Prendas sent a letter to President Carlos Alvarado requesting that the appointment of the official be reversed.

Carazo, who was Ombudsman from 1993 to 1997, led a lawsuit against the State for 18 million colones, because the amount of his father’ pension was not updated. Carazo’s father is former President Rodrigo Carazo Odio, who led the country from 2004 to 2009.

According to Prendas, in addition to the issue of the demand, it is inconceivable that Alvarado is an ethical guarantor, when in two months of administration there have been questions about ethics in the Administration and he has not showed up.

The appointment will be effective on July 15th, and will replace the former ambassador and now Alvarado’s communications minister, Juan Carlos Mendoza.
