Legislator wants to change INAMU into a Family Institute

Fabricio Alvarado, a Christian legislator, is working on a bill to eliminate the figure of the National Institute for Women (INAMU) and, instead, establish a Family Institute.

A complaint has been made by the Legislature against the institute and also against Alejandra Mora, Minister of Women.

Alvarado’s reaction is due to a case of violence by a woman against an elderly woman, in which INAMU refused to intervene because it wasn’t gender violence.

The legislator said that they are receiving a lot of comments regarding the issue, and they think that if the attacker were a lesbian, perhaps INAMU will react. He also added that the institute must protect both women and men against any kind of aggression, becoming a truly gender equality defender.

He also accuses Minister Mora, stating that she wants to promote abortion in the country and that she is encouraging a negative perspective about men, to make them look like women’s enemies.
