The legislators from the Economic Affairs Committee suspended the discussions on urban mobility bills that, at the same time, would imply the legalization of Uber, according to one of the liberationist congress members that make up this legislative forum.
This suspension would be for 30 days after the request of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT). In that same period the institution will present an inclusive initiative.
The legislators also deny the statements of taxi drivers who on Monday night claimed that both initiatives were going to be put away after a meeting they had with the legislators.
According to Karine Niño, from the National Liberation Party (PLN), while she was present at the meeting, that was never part of the agreement, but she did say this possibility would only be considered if the initiative presented by the Executive Power is not complete and inclusive to solve the problem.
Additionally, part of the negotiations in the meeting stipulated the red force should leave its participation in the indefinite strike.
Niño said that the temporary suspension cannot be seen as a waste of time, but as an opportunity for the government to make decisions at the work tables and, at the same time, assess the commitment of the Executive on this issue.
If after that time the MOPT does not present the initiative or, if it does and it’s not substantial, the Commission would continue with the processing of these two bills.
