On October 25th, the Minister of Agriculture, Luis Felipe Arauz, responded the Ombudman’s questions on the new registry of pesticides that will be enforced within 15 days.
Arauz also explained that he requested a hearing with the Ombudsman in order to personally explain the process, because there are very technical aspects, but it was not granted and there are some statements with which he disagrees.
The Minister added that the method of incorporation, which establishes the procedure and grants the registrations of synthetic pesticides for a period of three years, is considered “a problem” by the Ombudsman. However, this will expedite the process without having to go through the ministry of Agriculture and the ministry of Energy and Environment.
Arauz concluded saying that since the decree’s draft already passed the national and international public consultation, he is really surprised by the Ombudsman’s position.
