MEP analyzes conflict in San Carlos School

The Ministry of Public Education (MEP) is analyzing a request of parents from school Puerto Escondido in San Carlos, who threaten to close the school if the principal is not replaced.

Orlando De la O, director of MEP’s Management and Regional Development Department, explained that although the institution operates normally, they are analyzing the situation, but the reason behind parents’ concern is still unclear.

The school is not closed, but there is a group of angry parents. Yesterday there was a meeting with them and the supervisor of the area, where they expressed their discomfort. There is another scheduled meeting to negotiate with parents,”

said De la O.

According to the director, they need to make a report on accountability to determine what made parents angry and what are the possible solutions.

We need to ensure that her work as a principal meets parents’ expectations and helps the development of that school (…) We hope the institution remains open and that parents are satisfied (…), to ensure children’s right to education,”

added De la O.
