MEP and unions do not reach agreement and the strike continues

The Ministry of Public Education (MEP) failed to reach an agreement with education unions and these will remain on indefinite strike.

According to Gilberto Cascante, from the National Association of Educators (ANEP), the meeting consisted of a conversation; however, the unions assured that they will continue on strike. In addition, Cascante denied that the movement is hurting the education system.

They assured that they remain open to dialogue and possible proposals.

Édgar Mora, Minister of Public Education, regretted the decision of the unions, stating that this harms the educational process of the country’s students.

Since the beginning of the strike, more than 50% of schools have been closed. The unions could meet again soon with the MEP; however, there is no date yet.
