MINAE paid plus salary based on rule revoked in 1992

Over the past year, the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) paid officials’ salaries based on a 1990 agreement that was repealed since 1992. This was revealed by a report of the Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR), who is calling for an end to this situation.

The report presents the case of three officials of the section of meteorology who received an extra payment of more than two million colones, but also indicates that last August, the comptroller reported the existence of 18 similar cases, and the amount exceeds 28 million colones.

MINAE authorized the payment of a 25% extra for three officials of the branch of meteorology who started working on February 2nd, 2015, based on the arbitration award no. 251 issued by the Superior Labor Court on March 30th, 1990. However, this is not valid, because its expiration operated from May 15th, 1992,”

cites the report.
