Minister has some explaining to do

The Minister of Environment and Energy (MINAE), Édgar Gutiérrez, must explain in the legislature why Manuel Antonio National Park is in such abandonment conditions.

The legislators of the Environment Commission summoned Gutiérrez to an extraordinary hearing that will take place on Thursday, 5 minutes after the end of the legislative plenary session.

We are very worried about what has been happening for months in this National Park. We feel that MINAE and the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) have not properly managed the park,

said the motion’s proponent, legislator Gerardo Vargas Rojas, from the Christian Social Unity Party (PUSC).

The legislator said that the non-compliances of MINAE affect thousands of people, visitors and neighbors in the area, who depend on the park’s income.

The Governing Area of the Ministry of Health of the Central Pacific gave MINAE and SINAC three months to improve the conditions of the park.
