MOPT deadline to present a project on Uber expires this week

The Congress is waiting for the bill promised by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) to solve the problem of public transport, specifically regarding the digital platforms and taxi drivers.

To that end, the legislators who make up the Economic Affairs Committee gave a 30-day deadline for the development of the initiative, a term that, according to Pablo Abarca, president of that forum, expires on November 8th.

To date, the institution has not submitted any document.

Abarca explained that they will wait until Thursday for the initiative with the aim of assessing it in a meeting between legislators and advisors to determine if they would accept the full text or if they would make some changes.

If the MOPT fails to comply with this deadline, they will continue with the discussion of the draft Law of Transport Network Companies, Object, Principles and Nature of the Private Transportation Service and Law of Collaborative Mobility in Costa Rica.

Rodolfo Méndez Mata, head of the ministry, visited the legislative committee on September 25th, where in addition to requesting the deadline of the project, acknowledged that the solution is not simple. He even said that he would like to “have magic” to solve it without problem in the short term.
