Moratorium request on pineapple plantations for polluting water in the North

Edgardo Araya, member of Frente Amplio, asked President Luis Guillermo Solís to declare a moratorium on pineapple plantations expansion in the North because water is polluted with agrochemical substances.

Araya declared that Agroindustrial La Lydia company, located in San Carlos, admitted there are three chemical polluting substances: two of them are in Pital and San Pedro gorges and one is in a gorge that flows into a lagoon near the area.

Scientific studies, financed by the company, prove what communities have been pointing out: water is polluted by agrochemicals substances,

said Araya.
