More than 200 leatherback turtles were released by the police!

In recent days, Public Force and Coast Guard officers have released 200 leatherback turtles on the coast of Limon.

During spawning, which began last March, the authorities carry out constant patrols, both at night and at dawn on different beaches, where species are under siege from poachers.

The aim of the police officers is to provide greater security to those involved in conservation projects, working with the relocation of nests that are threaten, and after the birth of the offspring, the animals are taken to the sea.

Nelson Barquero, a commander in Limón said

this is a work that makes us feel proud, a few months ago we were fighting against poachers and now taking the turtles to the sea is very rewarding.”
