More works at La Platina bridge will start in two years

The history of La Platina bridge is far from over. Although it seems a joke, CONAVI must intervene the bridge over Virilla river again in two years.

Law 9292 of Public Works Development of San José-San Ramón Road establishes that the stretch between Monumento del Agua and the Juan Santamaría Airport in General Cañas highway should have 4 lanes per direction. This forces authorities to build a new bridge to complete the 8 lanes, since the one currently being built will have only 6.

According to Adrián Sánchez, a CONAVI engineer, authorities are going to build a paralel bridge and it was not planned before because the hiring was done at a moment when the new law wasn’t in force.

The deadlines are a bit premature, but we would expect to start with designs by the end of next year. The construction phase of the road is 3 ½ years and it depends on the contracting model, because it could be done in phases and several contractors could work at the same time to reduce the deadlines. We would expect to intervene the bridge in 2 years,

informed Sánchez.
