Although the National Union of Local Governments (UNGL) reported that San Jose was one of the 13 cantons that would apply a prohibition for alcohol sales on the day of the presidential elections, municipal officials are now saying they will not enforce the ban. According to the director of the Municipal Police, Marcelo Solano the regulations are not clear and there are technical problems with its implementation. The ban would cost 6 million colones ($12,000) to implement and divert resources during the already busy election weekend.
