Nataly, a transsexual imprisoned in La reforma

Nataly Monge said proudly:

I am a transsexual woman and I’m in La Reforma prison.

Monge, who is 22 years old, is serving a six-year sentence for aggravated robbery. She was sentenced as a minor and she is part of a group of people located in the F field, known as the “tombs”.

Due to its unhealthy conditions, the Ministry of Justice will close the place and it will become a center of new opportunities.

Currently, the F field houses people who can’t be in other areas of the prison. They are entitled to one hour of sunlight and they spend 23 hours locked in the field.

I have 6 months here. I’m sentenced under the juvenile criminal law. As you can see, my dear, these are not human conditions,

declared Monge.

Nataly said that she has no complaints about the administrative and prison staff. However, she admitted that she has had problems with the other prisoners.

Every day, she exercises, reads or watches TV. However, it is a difficult situation and many inmates decide to commit suicide.

Nataly is one out of the 37 prisoners who are still in that area. The Ministry of Justice expects to move them to other places while they make the necessary changes.
