Nearly 273,000 corporations likely to be dissolved for default in tax payment

January 31st is the deadline for payment of corporate taxes, and a total of 273,000 corporations have currently failed to pay for the year to date and last year. A total of 545,000 companies must pay the tax.

According to a law enacted in April of 2012, those companies that fail to pay for three years in a row will be subject to dissolution. The civil registry has yet to defined the process for the closures, but they would begin in 2015.

According to tax law attorney, Jose Maria Oreamuno the taxes are the joint liability of the corporate officers and the company. The registry is working to begin a system of judicial collection procedures to peruse these debts.
