A study on hospital infrastructure in the country revealed that it is necessary to make improvements in electrical installations, reinforcement plans, architectural redesigns and earthquake risk reduction.
The data was released by the Costa Rican Association of Hospital Architecture and Engineering (ACOAIH), which indicates that the 29 public hospitals suffer from serious infrastructure problems.
Vania Ureña, president of the Association, highlighted the importance of opening spaces for dialogues and analysis on the intervention required by the structures,
mainly in the architectural system as many of these buildings were built more than 15 years ago […] various professionals are planning, equipping, constructing and remodeling the buildings that house not only the personnel that provide health services, but also the patients and their relatives.”
According to ACOAIH, no hospital, except those in the construction stage, reaches the ideal in mechanical, electrical, architectural or structural systems.
From Wednesday until September 20th, the 5th Hospital Infrastructure Congress will be held in the country at the Crowne Plaza Corobicí hotel, where more than 20 experts in different fields will give insight on the future of buildings and new equipment to use in the provision of health services.
