New drugs are being used in school parties

As soon as the classes end, parties organized by many college students are very common, and unfortunately such activities are characterized by excessive consumption of alcohol and some drugs like marijuana.

However, according to the director of the Costa Rican Drug Institute (ICD), Guillermo Araya, this year authorities and parents have another concern: synthetic substances, which young people believe have lesser effects.

Liliana Rojas, head of the Department of Student welfare of the Ministry of Public Education (MEP) said that the parties are not organized by the Ministry and in its official activities alcohol is prohibited.

She pointed out that the parents should be alert and forbid their children to organize or attend such activities.

Rojas added that in the schools they have preventive talks for the students in order to inform them about the risks of that kind of parties.
