New Executive President of the CCSS defended decision by President Solís

Fernando Llorca, the new executive president of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), referred to his role within the institution as of Thursday.

He came to replace María del Rocío Sáenz, who announced her departure after President Luis Guillermo Solís asked her to resign for not following the line of the Executive regarding the pension system and vote in favor of a 1% increase for the Disability, Old Age and Death (IVM) regime.

At a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Llorca defended the actions of President Solís and said that the change in the command of the institution is due to a need to improve the dialogue between the Government and the members of the Board of Directors.

Remember that the President is the leader of the Executive Branch,”

said Llorca. He added that the Executive cannot unilaterally reverse a board decision, such as the 1% increase.
