New medical rates temporally suspended

The government board of Colegio de Médicos y Cirujanos de Costa Rica agreed to temporally suspend the implementation of the new and controversial rates for medical procedures.

Colegio de Médicos reported that

before this regulation, there was no other regulation regarding medical procedures in the country. This rates aim to regulate the minimum amount the doctor must charge for professional fees”.

According to Alexis Castillo, president of Colegio de Médicos, the creation of these rates has objective parameters, taking into consideration aspects such as specialty degrees, complexity of the procedure, social responsibility and consequence of error, frequency and a comparative study of the market.
