New trial against judge who installed camera in women’s bathroom

The Criminal Court of Heredia ordered that it initiate a new trial against a judge who is suspected of placing a camera in the women’s bathroom of the Courts of Justice of Heredia.

The order came after an appeal hearing annulled the dismissal and return of evidence that had been declared in favor of the suspect Hilje last April. The Office of the Prosecutor indicated that it is awaiting a date for the hearing.

In December 2015 a judicial officer discovered the recording device in a bathroom of the Courts of the Heredian province.

After filing the complaint, the authorities arrested the judge and a raid was made. However, the case was dismissed and there was an order to return the collected evidence, such as photos and videos with pornographic content, for being illegally collected. Given this, the Public Ministry and the National Institute for Women (Inamu) filed an appeal that was received by the Court on Tuesday.

In fact, a group of officials of the Judicial Power of Heredia protested against the dismissal that had in the first instance. They said they felt outraged and did not understand how the return of the intimate photographs and videos had been ordered to the judge.
